Arctic to melt by 2040

The Arctic could be totally ice-free during summer months within 30 years, according to scientists

In 30 years time, the Arctic could be ice-free in summer, according to scientists from the US National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), the University of Washington and McGill University in Montreal. Their simulations suggest that within 20 years, the ice could be retreating four times more rapidly than has ever been observed, leaving just a small amount of perennial sea ice along the northern coasts of Greenland and Canada.
