No gold medals for UK

The
UK is performing well in its efforts to reduce its eff ect on global
climate, but it’s still not doing enough, according to a new report
released at the UN climate conference in Nairobi, Kenya.
The report, produced by environmental groups Climate Action Network Europe (CANE) and Germanwatch, contains the groups’ latest Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI).
The CCPI compares the climate protection efforts of 56 industrialised and rapidly industrialising countries, which together produce more than 90 per cent of the world’s carbon emissions. It takes into account countries’ emission levels, trends in emissions and climate policy.
Sweden, the UK and Denmark came out on top, but even their eff orts failed to impress the judges. “If climate change protection were an Olympic discipline, no country would make it to the medal ranks,” said Matthais Duwe, director of CANE.
