The OS have planned this even to show charities, community groups and special interest websites, how they can make the most of Ordnance Survey’s online mapping called OpenSpace. The evening, based at OS’s Southampton headquarters, will start with a presentation before attendees can have a go themselves. Pizza and beer will be provided.

WHAT: Pub chat with round-the-world cyclist and adventurer Alastair Humphreys
When Alastair was planning to cycling around the world, a veteran long-distance cyclist agreed to meet him in a pub and answer some of the many questions he had. Now, with a few trips under his own belt, he'd like to help others who are planning their own expedition and he has therefore set up this evening in a pub. And, it's not just for those with dreams, he'd also like to invite those who have already completed an expedition or ultramarathon, or anything similar, to come along and share their knowledge.

WHAT: A Terrible Beauty: Edward Wilson in Antarctica 1902-12
Before Edward Wilson died in his tent alongside Caption Scott and ‘Birdie’ Bowers in 1912, he spent years exploring the Antarctic with Scott, taking on job titles ranging from zoologist to expedition artist. Now, to mark the centenary of the departure of the Terra Nova expedition, Brantwood House, the former Lake District home of John Ruskin, is hosting an exhibition of his most evocative works.

WHAT: The Outdoors Show 2010
The Outdoors show returns to the NEC in Birmingham at the end of the March with a line-up of speakers including Ranulph Fiennes, Kate Humble, Ben Fogle, Simon King and Touching the Void star Joe Simpson. Other activities include ice climbing, abseiling, fashion shows and the opportunity to learn how to skin a rabbit or track desert animals at the show’s ‘wilderness camp’.
