Chilango Stories

Once a derogatory term used by those living outside Mexico City to describe its residents, chilango is today used with pride among those living in the Distrito Federal and the wider metropolis. Unlike English equivalents such as Geordie and Cockney, chilango can be applied to anyone living in Mexico City, whether they were born there or not. Here, a selection of chilangos and chilangas share their thoughts about life in the city and how it has changed in recent years.
